|Wild and Abstract|
Nature and all that is natural has always the basis for the work I do. I try and incorporate into my paintings textures touched, to colours that are easily missed, so it helps me to take photographs of subject matter that might normally have been overlooked. We walk past inspiration every day and are blinkered to some of the most amazing things. Some are so small that it is impossible to see with the naked eye, so using macro or micro images also helps consider the complexities of surfaces using the idea of smooth and shiny, rough and dry or a combination of both.
Over the years I have taken these photographs of the natural environment and during my travels in finding natural textures from tree bark, rocks and sea shells. I have found it exciting in the ongoing development of my work. The beach and its contents has been a constant part in my love affair with nature, and I cannot help but beach comb where ever I am. But being greatly inspired by the natural elements, it has also encouraged me to look further afield to the universe and in the use of satellite pictures.
It's only recently that I have understood that the initial spark has driven me to develop my own natural flow of creativity. The heart of a painting depends so much on the feeling I get about a painting while working on it. It's only then, that it takes on a life of its own and moves away from that first flash of inspiration moving forward with more feeling.
After having an interest in the arts at an early age I went straight to Art College directly from school to study Art Foundation and then developed my love for ceramic design. I changed direction once I started my Visual Arts Degree and after I graduated I developed my paintings in my spare time. I paint when I can, as I work full time at a local school.
